Serpent River Trading Post Welcomes Visitors to a Revitalized In-Store Experience and Expands Toward Online Sales

We are excited to welcome you into our newly refreshed Serpent River Trading Post. Over the past several months, we have been thoughtfully reorganizing and enhancing our retail space to create a more engaging and enjoyable experience for every visitor who walks through our doors.

These updates were designed to better showcase the authentic Indigenous products and handmade items created by talented artisans from our community and across the country. By improving our layout and displays, we are making it easier for customers to explore our offerings, connect with the stories behind each product, and experience the culture and craftsmanship that define our Trading Post.

In addition to our in-store improvements, we have been working behind the scenes to build the systems needed to expand our reach beyond our physical location. We have developed a new inventory management system that will support online sales, allowing customers to browse and purchase our products from anywhere. We are currently finalizing our shipping systems and logistics partners, and once complete, our Trading Post will be fully equipped to serve customers across Canada and beyond.

This expansion represents an important step in supporting Indigenous artists and creating greater access to authentic, handmade products. Our goal is to provide more opportunities for artisans to share their work while making it easier for customers to connect with Indigenous culture and craftsmanship, no matter where they are located.

We also invite artists and craft makers from our community who are interested in retailing their handmade Indigenous products to connect with us. Our consignment program provides a valuable opportunity to showcase your work in a trusted and culturally meaningful retail environment, both in-store and soon online.

Tourism Strategy and Business Plans for Agawa and Serpent River Trading Posts

We are pleased to announce the completion of our Tourism Strategy and Business Plans for the Agawa Trading Post and Serpent River Trading Post. This milestone represents an important step forward in strengthening the long-term sustainability, visibility, and economic impact of our Trading Post locations.

Funded by FedNor, this project allowed us to take a thoughtful and strategic approach to growing our tourism and retail operations. Over the past several months, we engaged with community members, partners, and stakeholders to gather valuable input and ensure our plans reflect our shared vision, values, and priorities.

Our Tourism Strategy establishes a clear direction to position the Agawa and Serpent River Trading Posts as welcoming destinations where visitors can experience authentic Indigenous products, culture, and stories. The strategy identifies opportunities to enhance the visitor experience, strengthen marketing efforts, expand product offerings, and increase awareness among travellers along the Trans-Canada Highway and throughout Northern Ontario.

Alongside the Tourism Strategy, we developed detailed Business Plans to guide our operations and future growth. These plans provide a practical roadmap to support implementation, including priorities related to retail development, partnerships, marketing, infrastructure, and operational improvements. With these plans in place, we are well positioned to make informed decisions and continue building strong, sustainable operations.

This project also supported the development and launch of our new SRFNLP website, along with dedicated websites for the Agawa and Serpent River Trading Posts. These new digital platforms improve our ability to connect with customers, promote Indigenous artisans and products, and share our story with a broader audience.

We are grateful to FedNor for their support in making this project possible. Their investment has enabled us to build the tools and plans needed to strengthen our Trading Posts adding e-commerce options and support long-term economic development for our community.

With the Tourism Strategy and Business Plans now complete, we are excited to move forward with implementation. We remain committed to growing the Agawa and Serpent River Trading Posts as vibrant destinations that celebrate Indigenous culture, support local artisans, and create meaningful opportunities for our community.

Agawa Trading Post Preparing to Reopen for the Season with New Online Shopping Experience on the Way

As spring approaches, we are excited to announce that Agawa Trading Post will be reopening this May. After a long winter season, we look forward to welcoming visitors back and reconnecting with travellers, customers, and community members who make Agawa such a special destination.

Each season brings new energy to our Trading Post, and this year is no exception. We are preparing the store to once again offer a welcoming space where visitors can explore authentic Indigenous products, handcrafted items, and unique goods that reflect the culture, creativity, and talent of Indigenous artisans.

In addition to reopening our physical location, we are also working to expand how customers can access our products. We are currently developing our e-commerce platform, which will allow customers to browse and purchase items online. This new capability will make it possible for customers to continue supporting Indigenous artisans and accessing our products from anywhere, even after their visit.

We are excited to bring this online shopping experience to life in the coming months and look forward to sharing more updates as it becomes available.
