Mkwendawinan Genaabjing

museum & gallery

Mkwendawinan Genaabjing Museum celebrates the stories, people, and traditions that have shaped Genabaajing for generations. Our art gallery offers Indigenous artwork that showcases the talents of our people.

Located at the Serpent River Trading Post, the Museum offers visitors a deeper understanding of Anishinaabe history through exhibits, family trees, artwork and artifacts that bring the past to life.

Whether you are a community member reconnecting with your roots or a visitor eager to learn, the Museum & Art Gallery is a place of reflection, discovery, and respect.

Explore Family Histories

A key feature of the Museum is its online family tree collection, a growing archive that traces lineages, connections, and community history.

These interactive family trees help preserve knowledge for future generations while giving visitors insight into the people and families who continue to shape Serpent River First Nation today.

Community members are invited to contribute stories, photos, and historical information as part of this evolving heritage project.

Art Gallery

The Serpent River Trading Post is also home to a dedicated Art Gallery featuring Indigenous artwork created by talented community members and regional artists.

These works celebrate culture, creativity, and storytelling through painting, carving, beadwork, textiles, and mixed media, offering visitors an opportunity to experience contemporary Indigenous expression while honouring traditional forms.

The gallery provides a rotating showcase of local talent and serves as a space where culture, history, and artistic voice come together.
